Urban Thinker Campus Mannheim Photostream
From 17th to 19th of February 2016 the international Urban Thinkers Campus „Urban Citizenship in a Nomadic World“ will take place in Mannheim to discuss relevant urban questions. The Urban Thinkers Campus (UTC) is an initiative of UN-Habitat’s World Urban Campaign. As one of 28 UTCs through which a joint contribution of UN-Habitat’s non-governmental partners to the Habitat III process is made possible. Through discussions and suggestions on the general theme „The City We Need“ the participants are able to take part in the negotiations on the New Urban Agenda.
The results of the Mannheim Urban Thinkers Campus will be integrated into the New Urban Agenda, the main outcome document of „Habitat III“ conference. The conference will take place in October in Quito/Ecuador. During the conference, the New Urban Agenda will be discussed, negotiated, and finally approved by all United Nations member states and accredited non-governmental partners. The New Urban Agenda describes the global circumstances of life in cities in the 21st century and will serves as a political guidance for the global urban development over the next 20 years.
The Mannheim UTC will focus on the current international migration and its impact on the life in cities.
Opening with Mayor Dr. Peter Kurz, Dr. Eva Lohse from Association of German Cities, and Prof. Benjamin Barber from Project Global Parliamentarians of Mayors at the Mannheim National Theatre.

In the evening a get together will take place with live music.
Urban Thinkers Campus – Conference Day 2
with Constituent Groups, presentation of results and a solemn conclusion with Lord Mayor Dr. Peter Kurz.
The keynote speakers will give interesting insights into their years of practical experience.
The press conference will take place in creative industries center C – HUB
room C – CON ( conference room on the ground floor), Hafenstraße 25, 68159 Mannheim.
As interlocutors are Dr. Peter Kurz ( Mayor of Mannheim ), Christine Auclair ( co-ordinator of the World Urban Campaign for UN-Habitat ) and the cities researchers and former adviser to President Clinton, Benjamin Barber, available .
The play “Mannheim Arrival” gives the stories of refugees a stage setting – stories from their lives, their flight, and their arrival in Germany. Journalist and author Peter Michalzik has condensed these stories into a compelling and moving theatre play, giving the Mannheim audience the opportunity to encounter people who have found a new home in the city.
Participants, speakers, and guests have numerous networking opportunities. The event provides a stage for the forging of new contacts, the arrangement of meetings, and the laying of cornerstones for cooperation.
